The Ask engine reads your question, turns it into a database query, and answers from our own season-level NBA data — 30 seasons, back to 1996-97 — per-season rows, the GP-weighted average, totals when you ask for totals. Nothing is generated by a language model: one only helps parse unusual phrasings, so the numbers can't be made up.
Then comes the part a stats site won't give you: where that production lands on our 9-cat projection board. A 29.8-points-per-game answer arrives with the player's rank and draft round, one click from his full profile and projection.
What it can answer today
- Averages and totals over any window: career, the last N seasons, or a specific season.
- Any core category — points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, threes, turnovers, FG% and FT%, minutes, games.
- Fantasy rank and value — “Giannis fantasy ranking over his career” gets his per-season rank on our G-score board, the layer a stats site can't give you. Punt lenses too: “his rank if I punt FT%” re-runs the board with that category zeroed.
- The category breakdown — “LeBron category values over his career” splits his fantasy value across all nine cats per season: where it comes from, what drags.
- Full stat lines when you don't name a category, and two-player comparisons.
- Not yet: game logs, league-wide leaders, and pre-1997 history. If it can't answer, it says so honestly.
