Every player starts from the exact same position, so it isn't a sandbox: it's a puzzle with a right answer and a hundred wrong ones, and when you send someone your solution they get the problem, not the answer.
You have the real levers of a front office: trade with 29 CPU teams that will say no to a bad deal, waive a contract and watch the dead money stay on your books, stretch a salary into the future, decline an option, sign from a curated free-agent pool, re-sign your own guys at what it actually costs to keep them. The cap thermometer shows you where you sit against the tax and both aprons in real time.
How it works
- Pick a challenge. Read the brief: who you are, what you have to achieve, and what you're allowed to touch.
- Make moves. Every one re-checks against the 2023 CBA — salary matching, the tax line, both aprons — and the cap thermometer moves with you.
- Propose trades to real front offices. A CPU team accepts only if the deal is fair and legal for them; a salary dump gets turned down, with a reason.
- Grade your plan. Four dimensions — did you hit the objective, is the roster still good, is it financially sane, did you protect your assets — never blurred into one number that hides the trade-off.

Is the salary cap data real?
Yes. Every contract, option and pick comes from a curated cap sheet reconciled against published team payrolls, and the rules are the real 2023 CBA — matching bands, the tax line, both aprons, dead money on a waive, the stretch provision. Free-agent and re-sign prices are authored per challenge so you can't re-sign a star for the minimum.
Why four scores instead of one?
Because a single grade would hide the whole game. You can ace the objective by gutting the roster or mortgaging every pick — and a 7.4/10 would call that a good plan. We grade the objective, basketball sense, financial health and asset stewardship separately, so the trade-off you made is visible.
Will the CPU teams accept any trade?
No — that's the point. Each of the 29 other teams evaluates your offer the way a real front office would: is the value fair, is it legal for them under the cap, does it leave them with a workable roster. Lowball them and they walk.
